Welcome to TIKO.
Hello, My name is Catherine Gill (email: firstname.lastname@example.org)
I have had the privilege of a number of years working with dogs in many sports. I am a firm believer in building a positive fun relationship between you and your four legged furry friend. I am not a dog whisperer, but love to whisper secrets into my dogs ears. They are the best secret keepers I know. I encourage everyone to have that kind of relationship.
I will be the trainer for the spring session at TIKO.
I am very excited about this opportunity to work with you and your K9 friend. My husband Kevin also has many years of experience and will be assisting in all classes.
On April 2nd we will begin the spring session of fun and exciting relationship building that can lead you and your friend a life of endless opportunities.
Please fill out the registration form and send it back to me. When I have received it I will add your name to the class of your choice.
This spring we will offer a Beginner Class at 5 pm on Tuesday evenings. Puppy class at 6 pm, Beyond Basic program at 7 and an additional Beginner Class at 8 pm. I would be very happy to hear back from you if there are other classes you might be interested in and we will see what we can arrange for the future. I am also happy to provide private classes if there is an area you and your friend are struggling with or if your friend is simply not a social dog. I do not like everyone so why should your dog. LOL
I will respond to you once I have confirmed space for you in the class of your choice. I would appreciate it if the first evening you could leave your companion at home so that you and I can get a chance to know one another and determine that we are all on the same page.
Anyone who is going to be handling the dog in class should sign the release portion. If you are unable to print out the form we will have some on hand to fill out there.
Reminder... all dogs must be up to date in vaccinations (age appropriate). Please bring proof of vaccination with you.
Cheques can be made payable to TIKO. If you prefer to pay by cash we request that you bring the correct change (one hundred and twenty dollars). No change will be available that night.
The first night of classes is administrative…
REMEMBER YOUR DOGS DO NOT ATTEND THE FIRST NIGHT. We will get through the registration, and then we will do an orientation so that when you bring your dog the following week the stress level will be nice and low ☺. The class will take the allotted 45-50 minutes, and some homework will be emailed to you after class. !!!
Looking forward to meeting you all.
OUR NEW OBEDIENCE INSTRUCTORS
Cathy and Kevin have both been very active in training and titling their dogs for many years. German Shepherds are their breed of choice in recent years but have worked with many breeds from Jack Russell's or Dachshunds, Lhasa Apsos or Spaniels and many more. They have titled their dogs in Rally Obedience, Tracking and Schutzhund, Dock Dogs and Herding Instinct Tests. No matter what the sport or breed they have learned it is the relationship that matters. Cathy has completed her Professional Dog Trainer Certification through Best Friends Dog Training in Ottawa and is happy to share all she has learned over the years with you in hopes that you and your K-9 friend can develop a fun and trusting relationship.
TIKO is committed to providing educational seminars to our members and the community. A variety of topics will be covered by expert presenters which will be available to TIKO members and the public to attend. Please visit frequently to view the Event Calendar and Announcement Pages for more details.
Conformation Handling Classes
Conformation (Show) Handling classes are offered by TIKO for novice and seasoned handlers alike. This class is for those handlers who wish to prepare their dogs for entry into Conformation competition. Show ring etiquette and handling, proper stacking and pacing of the dogs are taught. This class is an excellent opportunity to work your dogs in a show-like environment, to introduce your young dogs to the mats or just to get feedback on you and your dogs performance. This is crucial for the young future stars and definitely very important for your seasoned show dogs as well. These classes are really fun and a great way to socialize with your fellow enthusiasts.
OUR HANDLING CLASS INSTRUCTORS
All of our class instructors are committed and experienced members of the dog training community. Our methods reflect our values of respect and compassion for our dogs. No harsh training methods are used, instead we promote a positive atmosphere for our dogs to learn in through the use of reward based training. Our training team consists of individuals who train and compete in CKC events but who are also dog owners who understand the needs of the average pet owner in todays' society.
Karen Nesbitt - Karen grew up at the dog show and began her show career as a junior handler, showing her mom's pugs. For the past thirteen years, she has bred and shown border terriers. She is always learning about different breeds and the subtle ways that handlers can bring out the best in their dogs. Helping other exhibitors handle their dogs to their full potential is what makes our informal classes both satisfying and rewarding.
